The Movement Experts that Runners Need

The Movement Experts that Runners Need

Runners have a higher tendency to get injured as they train for races that strain their bodies. Many runners seek additional training advice, including physical therapy services before, during, and after their races. Many others run recreationally for health reason, and seek our help to avoid getting hurt.  Doctors of physical therapy are the movement experts that runners need, assessing their running form and risk for injury. Many physical therapy clinics will treat the injury, but not the runner him/herself. It is imperative to get a runner on a treadmill on day one to assess their biomechanics. This is crucial because treatments can be futile unless the root cause of the injury is known.

A biomechanical running analysis will allow your doctor of physical therapy to note imbalances and neuromuscular control issues. This allows the therapist to better understand the distribution of forces from the ground up through your body.

At Sarrica Physical Therapy & Wellness in Bay Ridge, Brooklyn we video record your running form and break down your mechanics. We assess the entire body, especially the feet, knees, and hips. These are the area’s most often responsible for causing a runner pain. You may have knee pain, but it may not be coming from your knee.  It may in fact be coming from your foot or from your hip. We evaluate the runner and give them constructive feedback on how to perform better, and for longer, injury free.

The modifications will assist you as you pursue your goals, but hard work is ahead of you! At Sarrica Physical Therapy & Wellness, we develop specific training programs for improving flexibility and strength. These specific corrective exercises are used to complement your training program, and get the right muscles working. Many patients/clients believe that they don’t need to train their legs because of all the running they are doing. This is the furthest thing from the truth, though.  You need the lower body and core strength to prepare yourself for the impact of logging those miles. We help people throughout the training process, allowing you to run at your best!

Whether you are just starting to run or are a seasoned runner training for a marathon we are here for you.  We look forward to working with you to prevent injury, optimize your performance and ultimately make you a happy runner!  To schedule a 1 hour biomechanical video running analysis with Dr. Paul Nasri, DPT please contact us at Sarrica Physical Therapy & Wellness Center in Bay Ridge, Brooklyn at 347-560-6920 or visit us at www.sarricapt.com
