Setting healthy goals for the New Year is a great way to work on your well-being, but only if you can stick to them. The key is to set realistic goals and measure your progress so you can remain motivated all throughout the year. Think about a few things you’d like to achieve in the coming months, taking into account your physical and mental wellness, your professional needs, and your social habits. You can also start looking for resources that will help you stick to your goals, especially where your health is concerned. At Sarrica PT, we can help cover several of those bases to address both physical and mental wellness with physical therapy, massage therapy, and even acupuncture.

Set and stick to your wellness goals for the New Year with a few of these tips:

1. Make healthy lifestyle changes

It’s a good idea to look for healthy lifestyle changes you can make that will also be easy to fit into your routine. One way to do this is to focus on your nutrition, which is easier than you may think if you have the right tools and a good plan. Food prep is one option that many people are trying, as it takes the guesswork out of making healthy meals and saves both time and money. You can also keep nutritious items on hand, especially at work, that will help you maintain healthy choices instead of reaching for vending machines or fast food. Another lifestyle change can mean putting more focus on your wellbeing in general with alternative treatments such as massage and acupuncture. Massage and Acupuncture are valuable tools for promoting general wellness, reduce stress, improve mobility and address any physical conditions you may have been putting off.

2. Unplug once in a while

Taking care of your mind and body can be challenging in this era of technology when we’re inundated with information at all times through our smartphones and even our watches. While tech can be extremely beneficial in maintaining healthy habits–especially smart tech that helps us keep track of goals–it’s still a good idea to unplug now and then and focus on yourself without all the noise. Taking a break from social media, turning off your phone, or removing devices like televisions and tablets from your bedroom can all help you reduce stress, get a better quality of sleep, and relax in general. Trying a session of Massage Therapy and/or Acupuncture can also help reduce stress and improve your quality of sleep.

3. Get social in person

Taking a break from social media can help you meet your goal of getting more active with your in-person connections, which can reduce depression and feelings of isolation and can actually improve cognitive abilities. This can be a challenging goal for introverts, so think of some ways you can motivate yourself to get out and stay social, such as adding in an activity you enjoy. Meet up with a friend for lunch and shopping, start a book club, or head to your favorite hangout and make new connections by participating in trivia night. You can also make it a goal to be more active and incorporate walks or hikes into your relationships.

Setting healthy goals and sticking to them in the New Year is a great way to improve your physical and mental well-being, so think of a few things you’ve been wanting to change in your life, keeping in mind that going back to school can open up a lot of doors for you.
